In the mail today was a nice present from Netflix. Metropolis, a silent film circa 1927, was waiting for me.
I will say that this is the first time I have seen a silent movie, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was more than pleasantly surprised. It was dark and dingy, very moody, and chock full of religious symbols. Everything I like in a movie. According to the preface to the film, about 25% of it was lost over the years so there are moments where the movie lapses time, but they did a very good job of filling you in on what you missed. I won’t go into the plot too greatly, because you can read that anywhere, but the movie revolves a revolution in the future between the worker class and the upper class, and the man who is destined to stop it.
Overall this was an excellent watch. Well worth the 2 hours it runs. If you have never seen a silent film before, i would say this is a good place to start. If you have seen a silent film before, then i ask, why haven’t you seen this? Go out and rent it, Doug commands it.
I have been using the web browser Flock for a while now, as an aternative to FireFox. It is based off of the same architecture, but it weaves things like Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Flickr, etc into itself and creates the only “social” web browser that I know of. If you use a lot of web 2.0 apps I would highly suggest giving this a go. It might not replace Firefox for you, but it might be a good backup when you want to be able to access all of your social sites at once.
Me.dium is an extension that Flock uses (might be around for Firefox too, I haven’t looked). I just installed it and signed up, and I have to say that I am impressed. It makes the already social web browser even more social by allowing you to see what users are surfing the same pages as you, and actually lets you to chat with them while you surf. Phenomenal. I will say that it isn’t perfect, but its less than a year old, and probably more complicated than anything that I can do, so I won’t bash it. If you are still trying to think of what it might be like, the best I could compare it to is a cross between AIM and de.licio.us. So, go on, give it a shot.
This is a woman who feels she is being divorced for no reason and wants her prenuptial validated.
My thoughts? Glad you asked.
I am 100% for prenups for exactly this reason. I don’t want to say that I side with the man in this situation, because he may be an asshole, but I know that I definitely don’t side with the woman. It seems like this man has made his fortune from working hard in the show biz industry, and she has been slumming around his apartment, basically free of charge. What caught my ear was when she said that she was trying to get her career going in London. I can’t count how many times I have heard this from wannabe actors/actresses. Its a defense mechanism that allows them to think that they have some hope of ever getting work. It is a lie. She has no future. She has no potential future income, aside from leeching off this man’s wealth. That is why she is villianizing this man and his daughter. For all I care, she can take a flying leap.
I’ve had this game on my phone for a long time, and I swear, over the last year, I have not gotten any better at it. Alpha Wing 2 is a very hardcore shmup for a cell phone. If you are into those types of games, click here and give the first level a shot. If you like it, then by all means download it, it only gets better.
Why is it that whenever there is a super-beast hell bent on destroying the world in a movie, they procreate like there is no tomorrow, but in real life we can’t even get wolves to get their groove on to preserve the species?
