Once (2007)

Netflix found it in it’s heart today to send me Once. Let me start off by saying that this was a great movie. However, if you are expecting Across the Universe, then you will be disappointed. This is a movie where the songs are songs, not a form of narrative. That said, they are great songs. Everyone of them is emotional and meaningful, and it seems like, even though they practiced these many many times, they still have meaning to the artists.
The story revolves around a street musician (Guy, played by Glen Hansard) and an immigrant flower girl (Girl, played by Markéta Irglová) who cross paths and semi-hit it off romantically. After a week or so together he says that he is leaving town, and that he wants to record his songs in the studio with her playing the piano before he goes. She agrees and they gather some more backing musicians. Instead of degrading into a romance movie where the couple falls in love, they take a more realistic approach to love and show that, even though two people might be made for each other, life often has other plans, and getting these two lovers together might be more difficult than you would think.
All in all, it might be able to qualify as a “chick-flick” or “make-out movie”, but only if you are a jerk and can’t appreciate a good movie. You’ll be hard pressed to find much Hollywood in this, but being that it was shot for less that 200k, it’s not a big surprise, and definatly not missed. So, if you like musicals about real people in real life, and not just a bunch of singing and dancing, this is your movie. If you like High School Musical, then stay away, you’ll only be disappointed.
5/5 stars

Blizzard has essentially laughed the German director out of their offices, and certainly right out of Azeroth.
“We will not sell the movie rights, not to you… especially not to you,” was apparently Paul Sams reply, to which Azeroth was pronounced saved!

I need to get into the stock market

Yeah, the news is two days old, but I’m posting it anyway. Friday Google’s shares rose 20%. In one day. That means that for every dollar you have invested in them, you got $.20 for free. Doesn’t sound like much, but imagine you had 300 shares. Each share went up $89.87. Thats $2696.10 profit from the markets open to close. Granted, in order to get 300 shares you would have had to invest $134,862 by the closing bell on Thursday. Thats a lot of money to have invested in one company, but with a one day payoff of nearly 3k, it seems like it might be worth it.
Now, for dealing with all of that financial BS, enjoy.
Just admit defeat.

Here you are, the latest in a long mud slinging campaign:
Mac disgusts me. Their ad campaign is based solely on slander. I’m getting tired of commercials like these. After watching this did I learn anything about a Mac? Did they mention new features that are better than Windows? Did they says that I could finally play games on my Mac without having to resort to some 3rd rate hack program? Speaking of which, where is my Mac emulator for Windows? Oh, thats right, I can do everything a Mac can do, but better, OUT OF THE BOX!
These ads remind me of the commercials that Pepsi used to run:
That is why I try to avoid Pepsi products whenever possible. Maybe I am the only one who thinks this way, I hope not.
Ideas for the name of my first child.
